What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the average reported incidence rate of AIDS per 100,000 population aged 13 years and older. |
| Why this is important: AIDS cases provide a valuable measure of the impact of the disease in various areas and populations. In the mid-to-late 1990s, advances in HIV treatments led to dramatic declines in AIDS deaths and slowed the progression from HIV infection to AIDS. Better treatments have also led to an increase in the number of persons who are living with AIDS. The Healthy People 2020 national health target is to reduce the number of new AIDS cases among adolescents and adults to 13 new cases per 100,000 population. |
| Technical Note: The trend is a comparison between the most recent and previous measurement periods. Confidence intervals were taken into account in determining the direction of the trend. |
