What is this Indicator? This indicator shows the age-adjusted incidence rate for liver cancer.
Why this is important: Liver cancer is cancer that forms in the tissues of the liver. Liver and bile duct cancers are the sixth most common cause of cancer deaths among men and the tenth most common cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. In the U.S. in 2009, it is estimated that there will be 22,620 new cases and 18,160 deaths from liver cancer.
Technical note: The distribution for this indicator is based on data from 48 California counties. Rates were not calculated for counties with 3 or fewer reported cases. |

The Community Target of 5.5 cases per 100,000 population represents the 90th percentile of all California counties. That is, only 10 percent of California counties have lower rates.
