What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the number of clinicians on the San Francisco Hep B Free Clinician's Honor Roll. The San Francisco Hep B Free Clinican's Honor Roll acknowledges primary care clinicians who have signed a pledge to screen patients at risk for chronic Hepatitis B infections in accordance with CDC guidelines. |
| Why this is important: Hepatitis B is a disease caused by a virus, called hepatitis B virus (HBV), that attacks the liver. Infection with HBV can last for a lifetime especially if it is contracted during infancy or early childhood. Hepatitis B is a serious disease which can lead to cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure, and death. A safe and effective vaccine against HBV is available for all age groups. The effectiveness of the hepatitis B vaccine has dramatically reduced the incidence of acute HBV infections and currently people with chronic infections serve as the primary reservoir for transmission. |
| Technical Note: The trend is a comparison between the most recent and previous measurement periods. Confidence intervals were not taken into account in determining the direction of the trend. |
